Parking can be limited, especially during busy periods, and locals often avoid the hassle altogether. Instead, they hop aboard the Suncoast Beach Trolley, which runs along Gulf Boulevard and stops nearly every block, making it incredibly convenient to get between beaches, restaurants, and shops.
Another local favorite is the Free Beach Ride service. Drivers operate entirely on tips and can shuttle you around the island without worrying about parking or traffic.
Better yet, simply walk if you want to stay active. Treasure Island is best experienced on foot, particularly along the 0.85-mile paved Beach Trail that winds through sea oats with uninterrupted Gulf views. Others prefer bicycles or golf carts, embracing the slower pace that has become part of the island's identity.
3. Don't Settle for the Main Beach. Head South Instead.
Most visitors head straight to Treasure Island's main beach. Locals, however, often point in the opposite direction.
Sunset Beach, located at the island's southern tip, is a local favorite since it's far less busy and, of course, still offers stunning Gulf views and sunsets. Sunshine Beach is another local secret where you'll find even more unspoiled sands.

If your visit overlaps with a Sunday, don't make dinner reservations too early. Head to Sunset Beach instead. Many people bring drums and other instruments to celebrate the end of another weekend on the island, and residents are always happy to chat with visitors and welcome them into their little tradition.
5. Don't Eat at the First Beachfront Restaurant. Follow the Regulars.
Treasure Island has no shortage of places to grab a bite, but locals rarely judge a restaurant by how many beach chairs it overlooks. They judge it by how many familiar faces walk through the door.
Start your morning at Foxy's Cafe, a beloved neighborhood breakfast spot known for hearty, classic American breakfasts and its famous basket of garlic bread. There's also Marquise Café, a French-inspired alternative where you can indulge in fresh pastries, French sandwiches, and a local favorite: the French Lobster Quiche. Also make sure to try Curious Soul Bakery & Coffee Shop, especially if you're a coffee lover. Its expertly brewed coffee plus its cozy atmosphere are the perfect combination for a caffeine fix and a little rest between activities.
For lunch and dinner, local institutions include The Floridian, where residents believe you'll find the island's best Cuban sandwich; Simply Delicious for made-to-order sandwiches; VIP Mexican Restaurant & Lounge, famous for its enormous burritos, best paired with its margaritas and "vodkaritas"; Caddy's Treasure Island for sipping cold drinks at a beachfront table; Middle Grounds Grill for upscale seafood; and BRGR Kitchen & Bar, where you'll probably enjoy some of the freshest seafood on the island in a stylish, modern-chic setting.
6. Don't Spend the Whole Day on the Sand. Get Out on the Water Instead.

Many visitors associate Treasure Island with long summer beach days, but November is the time for one of the island's most beloved events.
Every year, Sanding Ovations transforms the shoreline into an outdoor gallery where internationally acclaimed artists create enormous sand sculptures based on a new annual theme. Kids have a blast admiring the gigantic sculptures, and there's also a delightful community-driven atmosphere throughout the festival.
8. Don't Assume the Best Nights End After Dinner. Join the Locals Instead.
Treasure Island isn't known for flashy nightlife, and that's the way locals like it.
If you ask island residents where they head after dark, there's a good chance most of them will mention Ka'Tiki, a chill, tiki-style dive bar featuring great live music, bacon cheeseburgers, and an incredible drink menu filled with beer, tropical cocktails, and wine.
Ka'Tiki is just a few steps from the beach, so as you sip your drink, chat with the locals, or play a game of pool, you'll constantly feel that delightful ocean breeze coming through.
Heads Up Before You Pack Your Flip-Flops
Treasure Island faced enormous challenges following Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. Locals don't ignore what happened, but they simply prefer talking about what came next.
Across the island, businesses found creative ways to keep serving visitors even as rebuilding continued. Some longtime landmarks are still being restored, but restaurants, cafés, shops, and accommodations have worked incredibly hard to welcome travelers back.
