The St. Petersburg area offers endless family entertainment beyond its famous beaches. Explore hands-on children's museums, century-old botanical gardens, nature preserves teeming with wildlife, a world-class zoo, and unique horseback adventures. With warm weather year-round and activities for all ages, this Gulf Coast destination guarantees memorable family experiences.

The St. Petersburg area is known for its powdery white sands, clear blue water and warm climate.  It's the perfect place to unwind and have fun, no matter what your age.

Fun activities for families abound, so there's never the chance for a dull moment when visiting this vibrant area.

1. The beaches are the main attraction for visitors and locals alike. St. Pete's Beach is a solid stretch of undeveloped beach where kids can splash in the surf, build sandcastles and search for shells. Treasure Island is another favorite beach destination, great for relaxing and shelling. I love Indian Rocks Beach for snorkeling because of the clear water. You'll be amazed at what you'll see.

2. The Great Explorations Children's Museum, located at 4801 31st Street S in St. Petersburg, is a wonderful place for learning and activity. It offers kids a large playground where they can stretch their legs and numerous hands-on exhibits where they can stretch their minds.

3. Head back outside for more sunshine and nature at The Sunken Gardens, located at 1825 4th Street N. This legendary paradise of sprawling gardens has been in St. Petersburg for more than 100 years. Explore the many themed gardens and tropical foliage. There's even a flock of flamingos that call this place home.

4. The Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, located at 1101 Country Club Way S, is a natural habitat for native plants and roaming wildlife. It features a giant lake, playground, nature camps, wildlife and more. This is a great choice for children, teens and adults.

5. For a full zoo experience, head across the bay to Tampa where you'll find ZooTampa at Lowry Park. This 60-acre park houses a menagerie of animals including elephants, rhinos, monkeys and manatees. You can feed the giraffes and take a safari ride through the exhibits.

6. Cypress Breeze Farms in Odessa offers memorable adventures on horseback. You can ride horses through forests, farm trails and even swim with the gentle giants. Children must be six years or older to participate.
