Are you looking for the best Florida beaches, or the finest beaches in the whole United States for that matter? The beaches near Tampa Bay are among the very finest in the world. This tropical paradise boasts the calm and mild waters of the Gulf Coast which are home to many dolphins and manatees as well as the white, sugar-soft sand everyone loves. Honestly, you can’t go wrong at any of our area’s wonderful beaches, but here are three of our favorites!
St. Pete Beach
St. Pete Beach was voted as Trip Advisor’s #3 Beach in the whole United States for 2017. The St. Pete Beach shore includes the largest stretch of undeveloped beach in the U.S., the Passe-a-Grille-Beach. The laid-back vibe of this sandy oasis is perfect for families and beach lovers and you will quickly see why this is one of the best Florida beaches.
The actual town officially became St. Pete Beach (shortened from St. Petersburg Beach) in 1994, establishing itself as wholly separate and unique from nearby St. Petersburg, Florida. St. Pete Beach occupies the southernmost barrier island in a chain that stretches along the Gulf of Mexico from Clearwater Beach to Pass-A-Grill Beach. There are great restaurants and shops to discover in town. Or go out on the water for dolphin tours and fascinating eco-tours guaranteed to expand your knowledge of our mighty oceans and it’s finned, furry and feathered inhabitants.
As with all Gulf Coast beaches, St. Pete Beach boasts sugar soft white sands and gentle emerald waters. The beach itself and broad and expansive with a ton of open space that never feels crowded. There are many watersports available to enjoy, such as paddle-boarding, kiteboarding and windsurfing. Or simply lay your towel down on the super soft sand and relax.
Treasure Island
Treasure Island is a one of a kind Florida beach town that is home to three miles of pristine, Gulf shoreline. Living up to its fairy tale- sounding name, Treasure Island really is a treasure trove of beach activities, including swimming in the gentle Gulf waters, sea-shell hunting (there are a LOT of sea shells,) snorkeling, sunbathing and simply walking along the beautiful shore under sunny Florida skies.
Treasure Island beach is known for expansive, uncrowded beaches with a friendly attitude. There is plenty of parking and easy access to all parts of the beach. Walking along the soft sand will allow many opportunities to see dolphins playing in the water nearby. Once you visit, you will see why this is truly one of the very best Florida beaches.
Madeira Beach
Not far from Treasure Island is another treasure to be found among the best Florida beaches. Madeira Beach offers a wide, flat expanse of sugar soft sand with amazing Gulf views and clean, uncrowded areas to set up your beach chair and umbrella. The sand is groomed daily to provide the perfect landing spot to unwind from your daily grind.
If you want to get off the sand for a bit, fun shopping, and many dining choices await visitors in nearby sea-themed John’s Pass with its 1,100-foot boardwalk that runs along the Intercoastal Waterway. Plan a visit in October, during the world famous John’s Pass Seafood Festival and chow down on the freshest and most delicious seafood you’ll find anywhere. Madeira Beach is a favorite of Tampa Bay locals looking for the perfect beach for a day trip.
