The Fastest Cars on the Planet Come to St. Petersburg
A truly international roundup of racing stars will descend upon St. Petersburg for this early season race. The open wheel cars are single seat beasts with an open cockpit and boast 500-700 horsepower engines. The fastest recorded average IndyCar race was clocked at 207.151 MPH. IndyCar’s have been clocked at speeds as high as 232 MPH on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
Nearly exciting as the race, itself is watching the magicians of the track work their amazing skills during the pit stop. In literally just a handful of seconds, the cars are refueled and all the tires are changed before you can even blink a few times.
Uniquely American, Truly International
This truly spectacular seaside course is unique in American racing. The race is 198 miles, featuring 110 laps around the extremely challenging course which tests every driver’s skill and control. One could easily think they were watching a race of this caliber in Monaco, as the speedy cars race through glamorous twists and turns with fantastic yachts casting a brilliant background.
Tickets are available to all the racing events with reserved grandstand seats. Visitors can also purchase general admission tickets and paddock and pit passes.
For those seeking to take to the racetrack at speeds that are considerably more comfortable, the Firestone 5K run takes place on Friday, March 10th. This evening-time run/walk starts at 6:15 pm and takes runners along the Grand Prix track for a lovely 5K run or walk under the quiet early Spring Florida skies.
